Andiamo a trovare Jamie Lidell in hotel dove alloggia per l’esibizione al Dissonanze Festival 10. Aspettiamo che finisca altre interviste ed arriva da noi (perfetti sconosciuti) sorridente e disponibile come nessun’altro. Troviamo un’angolino tranquillo e iniziamo la nostra chiacchierata.
Ci racconta come il suo percorso musicale, sia inziato dal trombone, passato per il jazz, s.e.s mistery, workshop radiofonici e arrivato ad un’elettronica caratterizzata da loop, giochi di voci ed armonie stravaganti; tutto unito a una passione per gli effetti sonori delle radio, tv e video games che registrava e manipolava già da tempo… Qualche battuta e passiamo a parlare del suo nuovo album “Compass”, registrato negli studi di Los Angeles con la collaborazione di artisti di fama internazionale come Beck, Feist, Pat Sansone, James Gadson e molti altri ancora. Con occhi quasi sorridenti ci parla delle enormi sale di registrazione, delle migliori apparecchiature in circolazione e di quanto sia più facile lavorare con una crew di così alto livello: suonare la chitarra con Beck, mentre James Gadson è alla batteria e girare per i migliori studi al mondo non è proprio da tutti.
Iniziano a suonare delle campane proprio dietro di noi, creando qualche problema con l’intervista, mentre Jamie sta parlando delle sue impressioni sul festival, inserendo qualche accenno di beatbox qua e là; velocizziamo il tutto e chiudiamo con la fatidica domanda sui suoi piani per il futuro, alla quale ci risponde con una lista di paesi che girerà per continuare a presentare il suo album e che ovviamente, essendo un musicista, continuerà a fare musica.
Artista da urlo di un’umiltà spaventosa, con la musica che scorre nelle vene…grande Jamie.
