Ciao Alex, sei solito prepararti meticolosamente alla serata o vivi il party in modo spensierato?
Principalmente mi preparo alla serata in due giorni della settimana. Il Giovedì ascolto i promo e le nuove uscite nei negozi, il Venerdì quando sono in albergo prima della serata, scelgo le tracce e pulisco i cd; faccio la stessa cosa il Sabato. L’ultima preparazione la faccio nel club, pochi minuti prima di iniziare a suonare.
Ti informi mai su dove suonerai, sul tipo di pubblico e di cosa tira in quel determinato club?
No, anche se chiedo sempre al promoter qualche informazione perchè credo sia giusto avere qualche dettaglio in più sul club. Per lo più se ne occupa il booking di chiedere tutte le informazioni necessarie sul club, sulla musica e sul pubblico che lo frequenta.
Ti soffermi mai sul dj che apre la serata o preferisci entrare ed imporre il tuo sound?
Mi faccio portare al locale sempre 2 ore prima che devo iniziare. Posso così rendermi conto, vedendo suonare il dj prima di me, cosa alla gente piace oppure no e come reagisce.
Ti capita mai di pensare “voglio assolutamente suonare questo disco stasera”?
Si, sempre. Quando ricevo delle nuove tracce che reputo “bombe” mi sento di volerle sempre suonare una dopo l’altra. Alla fine reagisco alla folla e al loro stato d’animo che vedo durante il mio set… bisogna sicuramente improvvisare ed essere creativi.
Quando suoni dal vivo hai paura di sbagliare o sei sempre sicuro della tua performance?
Non ho paura di sbagliare. E’ umano fare degli errori. Credo che alla gente piaccia vedere suonare dal vivo, se invece si suonasse con Ableton o Traktor e si usasse il pulsante del sync, verrebbe un set troppo perfetto.
Come ti comporti con i promoter e il pubblico, preferisci interagire con tutti o vuoi il tuo spazio?
Essendo un dj sono un intrattenitore…questo significa che ho bisogno di interagire con il pubblico. La gente vuole vedere che il dj è interessato a loro, cosa fanno e come si sentono… Se io volessi essere solamente nel mio spazio, potrei anche mettere un cd mixato nel lettore cd e andare al bar fino quando il CD non finirebbe.

Hello Alex, do you prepare your music meticulously before a gig or go into the situation carefree?
I definitely do. Mostly twice. Usually on thursdays I start listening to promos or new releases in shops. On fridays when I’m in the hotel before a gig, I sort songs and clean CDs. same on Saturday. The last preparation I do in the club, a few minutes before I start to play.
Do you need information about a venue you will play or the type of audience in attendance at a particular club?
I dont, but I always ask the promoter before, because I think it’s just good to have some more details about the club. Mostly, the booking the club did before tells you a lot of what kind of music the club/audience is about.
Do you ever dwell on the DJ who opened the evening or would you rather go in and impose your sound?
I’m always in clubs 2 hours before I have to start. You can see a lot of what people like or dont, by seeing the dj before you playing and how people react.
Do you ever think “I definitely want to play this music tonight”?
Yes always. When I just recieved some awesome new tunes I really want to play, I Put some tracks together which could fit perfectly. but in the end, I react to the crowd and to the mood I’m in while playing.. you definitely have to improvise and be creative.
When you play live are you afraid of making a mistake or you’re always sure of your performance?
I’m not afraid of making mistakes…Misstakes are humanly… I also think people will miss the live charakter,if you play with ableton or traktor by useing the sync button…it’s just way too perfect then.
What do you do with the promoters and the public, you prefer to interact with all or you just want your space?
As a dj you are an entertainer…that means you really have to interact with the crowd…people want to see that you care about, what they do, how they feel… If I just want to be in my space, I could also put a mix Cd in the CD player instead and go to the bar untill CD has finished, if I dont interact, talk or drink with the crowd.
