Ciao Konrad, sei solito prepararti meticolosamente alla serata o vivi il party in modo spensierato?
Certamente, mi piace prepararmi per le gig dei weekend a casa prima di partire per per esse. Una volta che si è in strada, non sai mai se avrai tempo per dedicarti ai preparativi… diciamo la verità, a volte si finisce per essere in volo, a cena, ad un after, all’aeroporto quindi è meglio essere preparati prima di lasciare casa. Se riesco a sgattaiolare un’ora dopo cena e prima del set sono felice, ma spesso suono da qualche parte dove ho già suonato ed è bello divertirmi per la città, mentre non è possibile quando si è lì solo per la notte.
Ti informi mai su dove suonerai, sul tipo di pubblico e di cosa tira in quel determinato club?
Mi piace sapere dove andrò. Sono stato nel “circuito” per così dire per un pò di tempo così spesso ho suonato nella maggior parte dei posti, ma certo che si che mi piacerebbe sapere cosa mi aspetterà… Anche se non importa quanta informazione si ottiene di prima mano, non so come sarà finché non si và.
Ti soffermi mai sul dj che apre la serata o preferisci entrare ed imporre il tuo sound?
Dipende… so certamento quello che proporrò al pubblico e se il warm up è buno e addirittura si sta suonando con amici è sicuramente la miglior situazione. Se il DJ prima di me suona buona musica aiuta sicuramente a riempire la pista, ma se invece non sta andando bene allora sono costretto a ricominciare da capo, con una “bomba” capace di far tornare la gente sul dancefloor.
Ti capita mai di pensare “voglio assolutamente suonare questo disco stasera”?
Sì! Quando hai un sacco di nuove bombe da suonare non vedo l’ora di poterle metterle. Dipende da come è in quel momento il pubblico e dalla sensazione del luogo, se si sta suonando in una situazione che la pista è già imballata o se deve passare del tempo per costruire il set, ma ho sempre voglia di suonare dischi ai quali penso.
Quando suoni dal vivo hai paura di sbagliare o sei sempre sicuro della tua performance?
C’è sempre un pò di nervosismo…mentiene il tutto più emozionante. Personalmente mi gratifica sentire che ogni tanto la gente si accorge che posso sbagliare, è umano. Quando le persone suonano solo con i controllers e il computer, ecco, questo è un pò deprimente per me…
Come ti comporti con i promoter e il pubblico, preferisci interagire con tutti o vuoi il tuo spazio?
Rientro nella categoria di “interazione”. Ho avuto modo di conoscere un sacco di gente in tutte le città essendo spesso in viaggio. Non capisco chi arriva, soggiorna in albergo, suonano e vanno via dopo il set. Appena arrivo in qualche città, a seconda se ho suonato già il giorno prima e non ho dormito, di solito mi piace uscire e visitare la località.

Hello Konrad, usually you prepare meticulously the evening party or use live carefree?
I definitely like to do my preparation for the weekends gigs at home before leaving for that first gig. Once you are on the road, you don’t know if you’ll have that much time…let’s face it, sometimes it ends up being a flight, dinner, gig, after party, airport cycle so it’s best to be prepared before you leave your house. If I can sneak in an hour or so after dinner before the set than I am happy, but often I am playing somewhere that I have played before and it’s nice to enjoy a city while you can when you are there only for the night.
Do you need information about the place you will play, the type of audience and what pulls in that particular club?
I like to know what I am getting myself into. I have been on “the circuit” so to speak for a while so I have often played before in most places, but if not then yeah I like to know what to expect… but no matter how much info you get before hand, you never know how it’s going to be until you walk into the venue.
Do you ever dwell on the DJ who opened the evening or would you rather go in and impose your sound?
Depends..I definitely have my sound that I am going to play, and the best set up is a good warm up dj or if you are playing a party with friends, that is definitely the best situation. It definitely helps to get you into it when the person before you is playing good music, but if the dj before you sucks then it’s good to start fresh, with a bomb that gets the crowd back into it.
Do you ever think “I definitely want to play this music tonight”?
Yes! When you have a bunch of new bombs to play you can’t wait to drop ‘em. It depends on how the crowd is and what the feel of the place is as far as whether or not you are walking into a situation that is already packed and primed or if you have to spend some time building the place up a bit, but I always want to get it to a place that I can drop what ever I want…then you know it’s on.
When you play live are you afraid of making a mistake or you’re always sure of your performance?
There should always be a bit of nerves involved…keeps it exciting. Personally I like hearing people make the odd mistake every so often, keeps it human. When people are playing with just controllers and computers it’s a bit stale to me…
What do you do with the promoters and the public, you prefer to interact with all or you just want your space?
I definitely fall into the “interaction” category. I have gotten to know a lot of people in all the cities I travel as a result of spending quality time after the gigs in various den’s of ill repute. I don’t really understand the arrive, stay in the hotel, show up right before set time and leave right after the set mentality. As soon as I arrive somewhere, depending on whether I played the night before and am arriving on little to no sleep, I usually like to go out into town and check out a place.
