[tab title=”Italiano”]Dopo aver festeggiato 8 anni di attività della sua etichetta Fachwerk nel 2015, abbiamo incontrato nuovamente il dj e produttore Mike Dehnert. Amante della sua città, Berlino, alterna le sue giornate tra gli impegni come padre, sport, in particolare il climbing, e studio di registrazione che non ha mai tralasciato e dove è nato da poco il suo “Echo 8” EP uscito su Clone Basement Series. Reduce di due celebri Boiler Room, guardate da circa 120.000 persone in tutto il mondo e protagonista delle numerose label night al Berghain, Mike, come ci ha detto lui stesso, non riesce a fermarsi e sta già progettando il suo futuro e quello della sua label come ad esempio il prossimo showcase che quest’anno ad Agosto si sposterà al Tresor, dove il “Fachewerk sound” invaderà tutte le sale del club.
Come e quando ti sei avvicinato alla musica? Ti va di raccontarci come sei arrivato poi alla techno?
Oh, non riesco a ricordare esattamente quando. La musica è sempre stata intorno a me.
Hai molti impegni sia come dj, come produttore e come A&R e proprietario di una label. Ma com’è una tua giornata tipo? Come organizzi il tuo lavoro?
La mia giornata tipo è influenzata dalla mia famiglia, ma posso dargli una struttura: mi sveglio la mattina, porto i bambini alla scuola materna e torno a dormire fino a mezzogiorno perché la mattina non riesco a pensare o ad essere creativo. In questo modo non ha senso per me iniziare a lavorare, così torno a dormire fino a mezzogiorno, poi inizio a lavorare fino al pomeriggio. Quando i bambini tornano da scuola sto con la mia famiglia fino a sera, poi quando tutti dormono è li che inizia il mio momento di creatività. Mezzanotte è il mio tempo creativo per fare musica.
Ti dedichi anche altre passioni oltre la musica nel tempo libero? Tu vivi a Berlino che è una città che offre molte cose da fare, oltre i club che posti ti piace frequentare?
Faccio un sacco di sport, in particolare climbing al parco di Friedrichshain, lì c’è una roccia. Oppure Ostbloc che è un’arrampicata indoor, poi mi capita di incontrare amici da qualche parte a Friedrichshain, ma per me il tempo libero significa anche essere felice di stare a casa, perché quando si viaggia molto si è felici anche solamente per il fatto di rimanere a casa.
Non molto tempo fa hai festeggiato insieme ai tuoi colleghi, Roman Lindau e Sascha Rydell, 8 anni di vita della tua etichetta Fachwerk. Dopo una release speciale e un tour molto importante adesso che periodo sta vivendo Fachwerk? Cosa ci riserverà in futuro la tua label?
A Berlino, dopo 7 label nights al Berghain farò un grande showcase al Tresor (tutte le sale) il 12/08. di quest’anno. I prossimi showcase internazionali nel 2016 avranno un nuovo artista di nome Jens Tozzberg che si unirà all’etichetta con un EP che uscirà il 29 Marzo. Alla fine dell’estate invece è previsto un album 2×12″ da Sascha Rydell. Tra questi hotspot vedrò quello che è successo, ho un sacco di idee. Vedremo.
Mi ricordo che Roman mi parlò del “Fachwerk sound”. Quali sono le particolarità che lo caratterizzano? Questo sound è nato per caso o ci avete lavorato per renderlo diverso dagli altri?
Nel 2007, nel bel mezzo dell’hype minimal, decisi di fare techno, più forte, con più emozioni e molti più bassi. Tutti mi dissero che la techno non funzionava in quel periodo. Ma ho aperto la mia etichetta Fachwerk e i vinili venivano sempre esauriti, quindi c’era una grande richiesta per questo nuovo tipo di sound che ha una passione proprio all’interno della musica. Dopo ciò, la gente ha iniziato a chiamarlo “Fachwerk sound” ma per me è techno.
Lo scorso 23 Febbraio è uscito il tuo ultimo EP “Echo 8” su Clone Basement Series. Parlaci di questo disco. Puoi raccontarci come anni fa è iniziata la collaborazione con Clone Basement Series?
Ho incontrato Serge (il capo dell’impero Clone) ad Amsterdam anni fa, con lui condivido la stessa passione per la musica, e a lui piacciono le mie cose. La mia etichetta è elencata anche dalla distribuzione Clone e nel 2009 mi chiese di fare una release con Levon Vincent sulla sua label, io gli risposi: “certo facciamola”. Il mio EP “Echo 8” è una mia tipica release, lì puoi vedere qual è la mia vera passione, fare musica. Non posso smettere, ho tante idee e mi piace troppo. Non ne ho mai abbastanza dalla musica.
Nel 2013 sei stato uno dei protagonisti della Boiler Room a Berlino. Per molti artisti farne parte è un traguardo importante e l’evento visto da fuori è molto più di un semplice dj set in streaming. Tu che ricordi hai di questa esperienza?
E’ stato molto bello, è una sensazione molto strana quando suoni e la gente sta dietro di te, molto strana. Mi sono dimenticato delle telecamere e sono entrato nella musica. E’ diverso da un normale dj set perché suoni un podcast live, per questo motivo ero più concentrato. Più tardi mi sono reso conto che 120.000 persone mi hanno guardato, guardavano le mie dita, questa è la cosa strana. Ero molto molto nervoso per la mia partecipazione speciale della Boiler Room a Berlino nel 2015 per il compleanno di Fachwerk, suonare dal vivo e in dj set in una sessione sola è stato pesante.
Non fai solo dj set ma ti esibisci molto spesso anche in live. In che modo dei due preferisci esibirti? Inoltre com’è strutturato il tuo live e cosa usi principalmente?
Mi piacciono molto entrambi, quando suono live ho strumentazioni molto complicate, due computer portatili, a volte roba analogica e altro ancora.
E per quanto riguarda lo studio di registrazione? Ci sono alcune macchine analogiche o set up che ami usare?
Amo sia l’analogico che il digitale ma alla fine l’unica cosa che importa è come suona.
Come dj e produttore avrai sicuramente vissuto molti cambiamenti, infatti sono curioso di chiederti il tuo punto di vista. Secondo te come si evolverà la musica e la scena nei prossimi anni? In particolare mi riferisco a quella scena techno di cui fai parte.
Sarà più forte e ci sarà tanta più musica.[/tab]

Lover of his city, Berlin, he alternates his days between commitments as father, sports, especially climbing, and studio recording that he has never leave and where was born recently his “Echo 8” EP released on Clone Basement Series. Coming from two famous Boiler Room, watched by about 120.000 people around the world and protagonist of numerous label night at Berghain, Mike, as he told us himself, he can’t stop and he is already planning his future and that of his label such as the next showcase that in August this year will move to Tresor, where the “Fachwerk sound” will invade all club floors.
How and when did you get in touch with music? Would you like to tell us how you arrived to techno?
Oh can’t remember when exactly. The music’s been always around me.
You have many commitments as dj, as producer and as A&R and owner of a label. But how is your typical day? How do you organize your work?
My typical day is influenced by my family, but I can give it a structure: I woke up in the morning, bring the kids to the kindergarten, than back to sleep until midday because in the morning I can’t think or can be creative. So have no sense to start work, so I sleep until midday, than I start to work until afternoon. When kids back from kindergarten I stay with my family until evening when everybody is sleeping, than my creative time starts. Midnight is my creative time to making music, there is sometimes a second office time at midnight.
How do you usually spent your free time? You live in Berlin that is a city which offers a lot of things to do, so besides clubs which are places you like attend?
I do a lot of sport, in particular climbing at Friedrichshain Volkspark, there is a rock. Or Ostbloc which is an indoor climbing, than I meet friends somewhere in Friedrichshain, but free time means for me also to be happy to stay at home because when you travel a lot than you are also happy to stay at home.
Not long ago you celebrated, with your colleagues, Roman Lindau e Sascha Rydell, eight years of life of your label, Fachwerk. After a special release and a very important tour, now what period is living Fachwerk? What have we expect, in future, from your own label?
In Berlin, after 7 label nights at Berghain I will do a big label night at Tresor (all floors) on 12/08. of this year. Upcoming international label nights in 2016 actually join a new artist to the label named Jens Tozzberg with an EP that will be out on 29 March. At the end of summer is planned a 2×12″ album from Sascha Rydell on Fachwerk. Between this hotspots, I will see whats happened, I have a lot of ideas. Will see.
I remember Roman talked me about “Fachwerk sound”. What are the special features that characterize it? Was this sound born casually or worked you on it to be different from others?
In 2007, in the middle of minimal hype, I decided making techno, louder, with more emotion and much more bass and everybody told me techno didn’t work in that period. But I started my label Fachwerk and vinyls were always sold out, so there was a big demand for this kind of new sound that have a real passion inside music. After that, people started call it “Fachwerk sound” but for me it’s techno.
Last February 23 was out your latest EP “Echo 8” on Clone Basement Series. Tell us about this record. Can you tell us how, years ago, was born the collaboration with Clone Basement Series?
I met Serge (the boss of Clone empire) in Amsterdam years ago, we share the same passion for music and he likes my sound stuff. My label is also listed by Clone distribution and and in 2009 he asked me a release together with Levon Vincent on his label so I told him: “sure let’s go”. My actually Echo 8 EP is a typical release from me, and you can see what is my real passion, making music. I can’t stop, I have so much ideas and I love it too much. So I can’t get enough of music.
In 2013 you was one of the protagonists of the Berlin’s Boiler Room. For many artists, join in it is an important goal and watching the event from the outside is much more than just a dj set in streaming. How do you remember this experience?
It was very cool, it’s a very strange feeling when you play and the people stay behind you, very strange. I forgot the cameras and I was into my music. It’s different from a normal dj set because you play live a podcast so I was more concentrated. Later I realized that 120.000 people watched me, watched my fingers, that is the strange thing. I was very very nervous on my special Boiler Room session in 2015 for the Fachwerk birthday, playing live and dj set in one session of the Boiler Room was heavy.
You don’t play only in dj sets but you also perform very often in live. How do you prefer perform? Also how is structured your live set and what do you usually use mostly?
I like both very much, when I play live I have very complicated stuff, two laptops, sometimes analog stuff and more.
And about studio recording? Are there some analog machines or set up that you love to use?
I love analog and digital but in the end it’s only important how it sounds.
As dj and producer you lived for sure many changes, in fact I am curious to ask about your point of view. How do you think will the music and the scene evolve in coming years? I refer in particular to the techno scene you belong.
It will be louder and there will be much more music.[/tab]
