Le sue radici professionali comprendono sia la scena rave che quella legale: quella dei club, dei festival, del business. Viaggia continuamente da un capo all’altro del mondo alla ricerca di nuovi esperimenti elettronici, nuove forme di clubbing, ispirazione. Nonostante la sua notorietà cerca comunque di mantenere un basso profilo, ammirevole!
Come riassumeresti la tua carriera in pochi step?
Passo uno, passo due, passo tre, passo in avanti, passo indietro.
Ascoltando i tuoi ultimi pezzi devo dire che mantieni sempre un profilo molto alto in termini di rifinitura e pulizia del suono, hai il così detto ‘tocco di classe’! Come ti piace lavorare ai tuoi pezzi?
Se non mi piacesse ciò che produco tu probabilmente non avresti detto “tocco di classe”.
Com’è uscito fuori il sound di Oliver Huntemann? Potevi produrre drum’n’bass o psy trance e invece hai scelto tutt’altro, quando pensi che ci sia il momento della scelta?
Faccio solo quello che sento e quello che mi piace. Meno interesse, più cuore.
Come affronti l’evolvere della tecnologia e dei sound odierni? Ti piace stare al passo con la “moda” o semplicemente te ne freghi?
Cerco semplicemente di fare del mio meglio ogni giorno.
C’è realmente qualcosa o qualcuno in particolare che ti fa alzare la mattina e dire “sì, ho in mentequalcosa, mettiamoci sotto!” oppure ti alzi tutte le mattine e ti metti sotto produzione, tanto qualcosa poi esce fuori?
Ogni giorno è diverso, ma di certo non mi siedo in studio e mi punisco a forza di musica. Se vedo che il progetto non è fluente mi prendo una pausa, faccio qualcosa e quando mi sento più produttivo ritorno.
Qual è il tuo setup attuale in consolle? Sei uno di quelli che disprezza chi utilizza Traktor?
Uso Traktor Scratch col timecode vinyl e un controller X1 per i dj set.
Avrai suonato in molte parti del globo: nei migliori locali e nei festival più acclamati, ma dov’è che ti senti proprio a casa tua?
Mi ci sento veramente solo a casa mia ad Amburgo. Viaggiare e suonare sono la mia passione, ma aprire le porte di casa dopo un tour è sempre una sensazione fantastica.
Ci sarà un PLAY! 05?
Sì certo, PLAY!05 è uscito il 6 ottobre sulla mia etichetta Senso Sounds. Questa volta ho registrato al Grelle Forelle a Vienna. Una serata incredibile!
Confused Recording è una piattaforma che tiri avanti dal 1995 creata fondata insieme a Jan Langer che ha ospitato parecchi artisti di vario calibro non indifferente, ma la domanda è un’altra: come si gestisce un’etichetta così grande insieme ad un’altra persona e quali sono le scelte giuste da fare per fare un buon lavoro?
Preferisco parlare del futuro non del passato. Confused Recordings non esiste più da cinque anni ormai. In generale, si può dire che la giusta scelta sia trovare un partner che capisca la tua visione, che abbia voglia di spingere col lavoro e che abbia voglia di tirare su le maniche insieme a te. Inoltre è necessaria una chiara divisione del lavoro.[/tab]

How would you sum up your career in just few steps?

Listening to your latest pieces I must say you always keep a very high profile in terms of finishing and cleaning of sound, you’ve the so-called ‘touch of class’! How do you like work on your pieces?
If I wouldn’t like it, you probably would not say it‘s a „touch of class“.
How did the Oliver Huntemann’s sound come out? You could produce drum’n’bass or psy trance and instead you’ve chosen quite another thing, when you think there’s the moment of the choice?
I just do what I feel and what I like. Less purpose, more heart.
How do you deal with the evolution of technology and sound of today? Do you like to keep up with the “vogue” or simply don’t you care?
I simply try to do the best I can every day.
Is there really something or someone in particular that makes you get up in the morning and let you say “Yes, I’ve something in mind, let’s get down!” or do you get up every day and put yourself under production, so then something comes out?
Everyday is different, but I don‘t sit in the studio and punish myself. If it‘s not flowing, I‘ll take a rest, do something else and return, when I feel right.
What’s your setup in the console? Are you one of those who despise those who use Trakotr?
I use Traktor Scratch with timecode vinyl and a X1 controller for my dj sets.
You played in many parts of the globe: in the best clubs and festivals the most acclaimed, but where do you feel right at home?
I feel only home at my home in Hamburg. Travelling and djing is my passion but it’s always the best feeling when opening the door to my appartment after a tour.

I prefer views into the future and not the past. Confused Recordings doesn’t exist anymore since five years ago. But in general you can say the right choice to make a good job is to find a partner that understands your vision and like to push it forward and pull the same strings with you. Also you need a clear division of work.[/tab]
